Scholarships
Every year AAJA offers scholarships to outstanding undergraduate and graduate
students. Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000. Students are selected based
on the following criteria: commitment to the field of journalism; sensitivity
to Asian American and Pacific Islander issues; journalistic ability; scholastic
ability; financial need. To date, AAJA has awarded close to $900,000 in
scholarship funds to assist approximately 400 students pursuing a career
in journalism.
Internships
AAJA internships provide opportunities and grants to students pursuing journalism
careers. AAJA currently offers the Stanford Chen Internship Grant, AAJA/Chicago
Tribune Print and New Media Internship Grant, and the AAJA Internship Grant
for Broadcast for interns who have already secured an internship and need
additional support. AAJA and its partners also provide openings for AAJA
applicants in several internship programs.
J Camp
A one-of-a-kind student campus that brings together a multicultural group of
high school students to sharpen their journalism skills, learn how their
cultural values impact their professional development and work together in
a unique learning environment.
Convention Student Projects
An incredible opportunity to work with professional journalists in putting
together a newspaper, a TV newscast, a radio newscast or an online news Web
site during the week of the AAJA National Convention. You get to work in
an authentic newsroom environment and, if you are accepted, most of your
expenses to attend the convention will be covered.
